"Splash Out Crime Night"

Saturday, August 7
6:00pm - 9:00pm

This is a free event for the entire family, with festivities that include music, games and giveaways. Refreshments will be available for sale at the concession stand, and all proceeds go to 78-Crime Stoppers, the board that makes the anonymous tip line to the Yuma Police Department possible. The City of Yuma Graffiti Busters will be there to provide information to the public on how they can make a difference and help eliminate graffiti. Children seven and under must be accompanied by a parent.

78-Crime Stoppers of Yuma is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping get criminals off the streets of Yuma. If someone has information about a criminal activity or suspected activity, they can call an anonymous tip line to report the information. Calls are not recorded or traced. The tipster is given a confidential number to use to call back in a few weeks to see if the tip leads to an arrest. If an arrest is made based on this tip, a cash award is given. 78-Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization that also needs help in the form of both public and business monetary donations to keep this program alive. Donations of any size are accepted and are tax deductible. To report a tip or to make a donation, call 78-Crime (782-7463).

World's Largest Swim Lesson

Come participate in the World's Largest Swim Lesson!
Thousands of children around the globe will bob, float and flutter kick their way into the record books by participating in The World's Largest Swimming Lesson™ at 2pm GMT on Thursday, June 3rd. More than 175 aquatic facilities, from Walt Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon near Orlando, Florida to swim schools in Orange Country, CA to community centers in the Bronx, to locations as far reaching as Zambia, Lebanon, Dubai, and the USAG Humphreys in South Korea are participating in the program to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning.

You can be apart of this FREE swim lesson for this worldwide program at the Oasis Pool, MCAS Yuma (I'm assuming that the same daily requirements for getting on base apply).  The goal of this event is to promote the importance of swim lessons and try to break the world record.  Open to all ages, even adults and babies.

Swim Lessons - register now!

Why there aren't more swim lesson programs in Yuma in beyond me.  Everyone wants them and no one seems to know where to go.  The last two summers, I was able to get my boys in group lessons in someone's backyard, but only found out about the instructor due to my ability to "hunt" the info I need.  Parks & Rec just posted their Spring/Summer Activities Guide and the summer swim lesson schedule is included.

They offer Private Swim Lessons in June for $31 for city residents at Marcus & Kennedy Pool.

Group Swim Lessons through Parks & Rec are offered early July through early August.  Classes meet Monday - Friday for 45 minutes except for Infant Toddler which is only 30 minutes for 2 weeks.  Cost
is $25 for city residents - this a great deal!  Age categories are:
Infant Toddler: 6 months - 36 months
Preschool: 3 - 5 years
Beginning Diving for age 8+
6 Levels of Swim Lessons are also available.  Participants must successfully complete all requirements for one level before entering the next level.

Swim lesson registration is NOT available online.
